EMDR

Transformative Healing from Trauma

We believe that trauma of any kind can significantly affect your mental and emotional health. Our EMDR therapy, a rigorously researched and evidence-based modality, is developed to support a person in processing and healing trauma.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a globally recognized therapy that helps people process traumatic memories. An evidence-based treatment developed in the late 1980s by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., EMDR has been used successfully by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide to relieve many types of psychological distress — notably PTSD, an anxiety disorder caused by very disturbing life experiences.

Structured eight phases of EMDR

History Taking: We collect information about your history and identify what traumata to treat in therapy.

Preparation: This phase is all about creating a safe therapeutic environment and providing you with coping strategies to help manage any distress. You can rest assured that you are in a supportive and caring space.

Assessment: We single out particular memories and the negative beliefs (supported by these memories) on which we will work.

Desensitization: You will revisit the traumatic memory while processing associated cognitions and feelings. The stimulation is generally bilateral, guided eye movement, which diminishes the emotional intensity overall.

Installation: This phase is about empowering you to develop positive beliefs instead of negative ones, creating a better self-image. It’s a step towards a more hopeful and optimistic future.

Body scan: During this phase, you will help the client notice and release any lingering body tension associated with the memory. This is a gentle process that involves focusing on different parts of your body to identify and release any physical discomfort or tension that may be connected to the traumatic memory.

Closure: We always wrap up with the intention of helping you get centered and return to your life in a safe and grounded way. You can trust that you will leave each session feeling secure and grounded.
